1888年刊行のメルヴィルの詩集John Marr and Other Sailorsより
- To the Master of the "Meteor"
が挙げられている。これら三篇の詩は、1986年3月の初演版から1987年10月の決定版に到るまでの改訂の過程で削除されたらしい。YouTubeに一時期uploadされていた1986年3月の初演時の録音を聴いてみると、終わり近くのVerzweiflung, Verzweiflung noch vorと、ich? Du....の間に、演奏時間にして5分強の決定版には存在しないエピソードが挟まっている。歌われている言葉は聞き取りにくいが、このエピソードの中で、DuPont's Round FightとAn Uninscribed Monument、そして恐らくはTo the Master of the "Meteor"の詩句の断片が歌われているようだ。Risonanze errantiの作品世界には、南北戦争勃発直前の時の経過を描いたBattle-Pieces巻頭の三篇の詩が、時間的配列を保ったまま現れることによって、戦争(あるいはdeath)へとゆるやかに向かう一筋の不可逆的な時の流れが引かれているとみることができるが、実際に86年3月の初演版では、その流れの先に、開戦後の世界(DuPont's Round Fight/An Uninscribed Monument)が続くわけである。
